- In 1941 J.R. Whinfield and J.T. Dickinson
discovered and patented the plastic
that today is known as PET. Nevertheles their commercialization began until 1955
and 20 years after it began to be used in the
packed of drinks. This bottle arrives to our country by the middle of
the decade of the 80´s and it had a great acceptance among the consumers.
- A bottle of PET spend up to 500 years, in demeaning for
this reason is important taking advantage of it as raw material in the production of products like carpets,
filler for clothes, in seats, in sheets for blister, strap, brooms, brushes and
especially in the application that has developed Fibras Para el Aseo S.A. de C.V., Scouring pads for Cleaning.
- In Mexico is calculated that each person
discards 6.5 kgs. of PET by year, something similar to 195 bottles, of this
whole PET alone the 21.5% are rescued to be recycled, 0.5% this
dispersed in the environment and 79% is
in landfills. At the moment in Mexico
only one of each 10 bottles are recycled.
- The waste of the PET represent between the 1.5
and 2% in weight of the garbage generated in the country, only that in volume
the PET can reach up to a fourth part of the waste.
